BS Yediyurappa Quits Active Politics, Says 'Will Work Till Last Breath To Make BJP Win'

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP Leader BS Yediyurappa has announced his retirement from active politics.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP Leader BS Yediyurappa has announced his retirement from active politics. He announced his retirement in his last speech in the state assembly.

He said, "I have decided to retire from active politics but will work till my last breath to make BJP win.  My only aim is to bring BJP back to power and I am sure it will happen."

"This is a rare moment as I have already said, I will not contest the election again. This is my farewell speech. Thank you for allowing me to speak," he said.

Yediyurappa served as the 19th CM of Karnataka from July 2019 to July 2021. He was preceded by Basavaraj Bommai. Currently, he is a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He served as a CM four times and thrice as a Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Assembly.

Yediyurappa was born on Feburary 27, 1942 in Krishnarajpet. He completed his education and was first appointed as a clerk in the social welfare department in 1965 but he soon quit. Later, he joined as a clerk at a rice mill.

Later, he married Mythradevi, the daughter of a rice mill owner in 1967. He has three daughters Arunadevi, Padmavati and Umadevi and two sons including B.Y. Raghavendra, and B.Y. Vijayendra. 

He is a follower of Basavanna and has been associated with RSS since his college days. 

Mythradevi died while drawing water in 2004. His daughter Soundarya died by suicide in January 2022.
