Bengaluru Faces 24-Hour Water Shutdown Affecting Residents In India's Silicon Valley

Insufficient rainfall over the past year has led to decreased water levels in the Cauvery River impacting both drinking water supplies and irrigation systems.

Bengaluru residents brace for a 24-hour water supply disruption starting at 6 am on Tuesday, February 27, due to the complete shutdown of Cauvery fourth stage second phase water supply line, said Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The shutdown, scheduled until 6 am on February 28, will impact various parts of the city, prompting concerns among those dependent on Cauvery River for their water needs.

The current water crisis in the IT hub is mainly due to drought. Less rain in the past year has lowered water levels in the Cauvery River, affecting drinking water and irrigation. Borewells in Bengaluru are also drying up because of insufficient rainfall lately, according to a report on The Hindustan Times.

Despite receiving 1,450 million litres of Cauvery water daily, the city still grapples with a shortfall, with an estimated requirement of 1,700 million litres per day.

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board has released a comprehensive list of areas in which the water supply will be disrupted 4th Block Nandini Layout, BHEL Layout, Srinivasa Nagar, Jaimaruthi Nagar & Badavane Sakamma Layout, Narasimha swamy Layout, Muneshwaranagara, Jnanajyothinagar, Jnanaganganagar, Mallathahalli, NGEF layout, Part of ITI layout, 1st & 2nd stage Railway layout
