Bengaluru Rains: CM Bommai Blames Waterlogging On Previous Congress Govts
He further claimed that the ruling BJP government has allocated Rs 1,500 crore for draining of water in the city and additional Rs 300 crore has been given to remove encroachments
At a time when the people of Bengaluru are facing tough time due to waterlogging and traffic congestion which was largely due to incessant rains that pounded the city on Sunday night, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai alleged that the waterlogging is due to the maladministration of previous Congress regime. They gave permission right, left & centre in the lakes & buffer zone, he said.
"This (waterlogging in Bengaluru) happened because of maladministration & totally unplanned administration of previous Congress govt. They gave permission right, left & centre in the lakes & buffer zone," CM Bommai said as quoted by news agency ANI.
He further claimed that the ruling BJP government has allocated Rs 1,500 crore for draining of water in the city and additional Rs 300 crore has been given to remove encroachments.
CM Bommai pointed out that the issue lies in two zones and particularly in Mahadevpura where 69 tanks are there and all are overflowing. He also said that the establishments are in low-lying areas and the third issue he pointed out are encroachments.
When asked about the drinking water supply in Bengaluru, CM Bommai said that the rainwater affected two water pumping stations in Mandya district and water has been receded from the first pumphouse and supply will begin soon. The other pumphouse is to be cleared by today afternoon. Meanwhile, water is to be provided through tankers and borewells, he assured.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar taking to his Twitter, wrote, "Karnataka has been facing incessant rains and the situation is quite serious in many parts including Bengaluru, Mysuru & Chamarajanagar as videos show."
"During such trying times, I request Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress, Karnataka's National Student Union of India, Karnataka Congress Seva Dal to come forward and offer help wherever possible," the Congress leader further said.
