Bengaluru Bandh: 12 Arrested, 13 Cases Registered For Violating Law And Order During Protest

The protestors smashed the glasses of two cabs near Kempegowda International Airport and smashed eggs on auto drivers, cab drivers and individuals during the protest.

The police have registered 13 cases and 12 people have been arrested for violating law and order during the protest called by the Private Transport Association in Bengaluru on Monday. The private transport operators' bandh in Bengaluru turned violent with the agitators reportedly starting to attack commuters and smash glasses of cabs and autos.

According to ANI, "Karnataka | 13 cases were registered in Bengaluru and 12 people were arrested for violating the law and order while protesting in Bengaluru yesterday during the 'Bengaluru Bandh' called by the Private Transport Association."

A Rapido bike taxi rider and the captain were attacked in Hebbal. The protestors smashed the glasses of two cabs near Kempegowda International Airport and smashed eggs on auto drivers, cab drivers and individuals during the protest, as reported by Times of India.

The violent protest brought traffic to a halt. Following this, police arrested many protestors for taking to violence.

Later, the protestors called off their day-long bandh after the Transport Minister agreed to meet most of their 30 demands.

The bandh was called in opposition to the Karnataka government's Shakti programme, which offered women free transportation on non-premium government buses. The private transport providers claimed that the plan reduces their profit. The private carriers asserted that the Shakti scheme has harmed them and that, despite numerous conversations, the state government has not met their needs.

The Minister's decision has also been conveyed to the Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Associations President Nataraj Sharma. The major demand of 30 points put forth by them was to monthly compensate the losses faced due to the Shakti Scheme.

On Monday, ex-cricketer Anil Kumble shared a picture of him taking a BMTC bus due to the Bandh in Bengaluru.
