Shimla Gangrape: Himachal CM meets state governor over the protests triggered

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 20 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Thursday met State Governor Acharya Dev Vrat over the protest and violence arising out of the recent gang rape and murder of a minor girl in Shimla.

The Chief Minister on Wednesday assured a police investigation in the death of one of the accused in the rape case.

"Police is investigating the matter. Guards on duty at that time are called for interrogation. Action will be taken against them," Singh told the media.

Earlier in the day, villagers pelted stones and staged protest outside Kotkhai Police Station in Shimla after the accused person's death.

According to the police, the person was murdered by another accused.

At least six people were arrested last week in connection with the gang rape and murder of a minor girl in Kotkhai region of Shimla district.

The victim, who was a student at Mahasu government school in Kotkhai, was returning back from school when she was kidnapped and raped on July 4.

Two days later, police recovered her body from Halaila forests of Kotkhai.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry in the case. (ANI)
