SC moved against Karni Sena members

Gurugram (Haryana) [India], January 25 (ANI): Two contempt petitions were filed in the Supreme Court on Thursday against three members of Karni Sena and four state DGPs for allegedly violating the ppex court's order and disrupting Justice in connection with the screening of film Padmaavat.

The apex court had recently refused to modify its earlier order and asked the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh government to screen the movie in its respective theaters in their states and asked them to maintain law and order situations.

The three-judge bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, said, we would hear it on Monday.

One contempt petition was filed by Tehseen Poonawal against four states DGPs.

He claimed in his petition, that four states had failed in its duty to maintain law and order in the case.

Thereby, Poonawala sought the apex court's direction to initiate contempt proceedings against those persons involved in maintaining law and order situation.

The second contempt petition was filed by Vineet Dhanda, seeking to initiate contempt proceedings against the members of three Karni Sena.

Jaiprakash Dhanda, lawyer appearing for Vineet, claimed in its petition to initiate the contempt proceedings against three members of Karni sena - - Lokendra Singh Kalvi, Sooraj Pal and Karan Singh - - for their alleged act in disobeying the apex court's order.

The apex court would now hear the matter on January 29, Monday. (ANI)
