MP Govt mulls depositing grains subsidy in beneficiaries' bank account

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh)[India] August 23 (ANI): The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to stop providing wheat, rice, sugar and oil (kerosene) at a cheaper rate at ration shop and instead will directly transfer their subsidized amount in the bank accounts of the Below Poverty Line (BPL) cardholders.

Public Relation Minister Narottam Mishra said that the decision was taken in this regard during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The Chief Minister has decided that the scheme will be launched as a pilot project in one district, if successful; it will be implemented in the entire state.

Under this scheme the government will directly deposit the amount of subsidy in the bank account of beneficiaries instead of providing grains at a fair price shop.

Congress leader Manak Agarwal, however, said that the state government should re-consider the plan.

Congress spokesperson J.P. Dhanopia also opposed the plan and said that this plan would also succumb to corruption.(ANI)
