Important for "pati parmeshwar" society to understand man, woman equal: Activists

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Following the incident where a man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife to death in northeast Delhi's Dilshad Garden area, women activists on Thursday said it is extremely important for the people and the "pati parmeshwar" society to understand that man and woman are equal and dignity and respect has to be meted out to both.

Talking to ANI, Women activist Brinda Adige said, "We live in a community and a society where a man can sleep with end number of people, he can ogle at anybody and he is still "pati parmeshwar" but if this man suspects his wife the community, the religion, the society, the family has nothing to say to him when he does such a heinous act."

"I think as a society and mostly religiously those have a very important role to play to say that man and woman are equal and dignity and respect has to be meted out," she added.

Condemning the heinous crime, another women activist Annie Raja said it is very sad that the Central and the Delhi Government are keeping silence on issues relating to crime against woman.

"Women who belong to other countries are also subjected to rape and molestation. But Delhi's law and order situation is the responsibility of the Central Government but they are not taking any steps for the security of the women or even to implement the existing law. This is very unfortunate and condemnable. It is very sad that the Central and the Delhi Government are maintaining silence on issues relating to women," she added.

A 43-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife to death yesterday, suspecting her of infidelity and also injured their son who tried to save his mother.

Bisht stabbed his wife Rekha , more than 30 times following an argument. They were married for 16 years. (ANI)
