Here's how new GST rates are a boost to womanhood
New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): As the new reduced Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates over various accessories and necessities of women have been implemented starting July 27, the central government has given a "big relief" to womanhood by helping them save more money over day-to-day needs.
"Giving a big relief to the Indian women, the central government has reduced GST rates on various items of their needs. As the rates of these items will come down, the women will be able to save more and will be able to purchase all basic items at reduced prices," Union Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted on Monday.
Piyush Goyal also shared a video highlighting the GST rates reduced over various items.
The 28th GST Council meeting earlier removed 100 percent GST on sanitary pads, while it reduced GST rates on other items like hair colour and dryer, hair removal equipments, powder puff, scent spray, jewellery box and handbags.
"The 28th GST Council Meeting brought a slew of benefits for women," Union Minister Smriti Irani tweeted.
The GST on handbags, jewellery box, wooden box for paintings, glass art ware, ornamental framed mirrors, handmade lamps, wax, natural gum, iron and brass products have been reduced from 18 percent to 12 percent.
Besides that, the council also decided to nullify tax on raw materials such as stone, marble and wood, used by for making handicrafts like sculptures. Also, rakhis, sal leaves, the raw materials used to make regular brooms have also been fully exempted from being charged under GST.
The GST charged for commodities such as lithium-ion batteries, vacuum cleaners, food grinders, mixers, storage water heaters, head dryers, hand dryers, paint, varnishes, water cooler, milk cooler, ice cream coolers, perfumes, toilet sprays and other toiletries has been slashed from 28 per cent to 18 per cent.
