Here're Andhra govt's efforts to tackle Chronic Kidney Disease

New Delhi [India], May 24 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information Technology, Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Nara Lokesh, on Wednesday said his government is taking all necessary steps to tackle the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) problem prevailing in the state.

Lokesh took to his Twitter account saying, "Our Government is making an honest effort to get to the root of CKD problem and is doing everything to safeguard the health of those affected. I request all to kindly verify the facts before jumping into conclusions."

He also gave an insight on the measures taken by the government to both treat the ailing patients and eradicate the disease from it's root.

"7 Mandals in Uddanam. 80 villages. 238 habitations. 7 RO mother plants completed. 109 Reg Distribution Units completed & 29 in progress. 16 cr spent. All CKD patients undergoing dialysis services in Gov dialysis centers are also being given a monthly pension of Rs. 2,500. (1/6)," he wrote in one tweet.

While stating that more than one lakh people had been screened so far for CKD by 15 mobile teams in four months, he said 13,093 individuals with abnormal test results were referred to nearby Community Health Centers for evaluation.

"3 new Renal Dialysis Units were established at CHCs Palasa, Sompeta and AH, Palakonda in addition to the existing dialysis centers at RIMS, Srikakulam and AH, Tekkali. A total of 64816 sessions have been conducted until now," he wrote in another Tweet.

He also mentioned that Australia's George Institute for Global Health, was chosen by Indian Council of Medical Research to evaluate the root causes of CKD problem in Uddanam area and take effective preventive measures, while a Research Center had also been established in Visakhapatnam and field activities were ongoing in Uddanam.

In order to reduce the expenditure of patients, nephrologist services had been made available once in 15 days at dialysis centers, and supportive therapy for patients on dialysis as well as mild CKD cases were available.
