Coal scam: SC appoints four more officers to probe ex-CBI chief Ranjit Sinha case

New Delhi [India], July 10 (ANI): The Supreme Court, while hearing a plea seeking Special Investigative Team (SIT) in the coal block allocation scam on Monday appointed four more officers to probe the former CBI chief Ranjit Sinha case

Meanwhile, in Jindal Power Limited case, while asserting at the violation of Mega Power policy the apex court, asked the CBI to produce the investigation report by the next date of hearing since a preliminary enquiry had already been initiated.

The apex court also expressed its concern over transfer of investigating officer Ravi Kant without the court's permission.

The court will hearing the matter next on July 21.

The special CBI court, earlier on April 10, granted interim bail to all five fresh accused in the coal scam case involving the Jindal coal block matter.

The court took cognizance on the fresh chargesheet in which CBI named the five persons as accused in the scam.

The CBI had mentioned names of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd's adviser Anand Goel, Gurgaon-based Green Infra's vice-president Siddharth Madra, Nihar Stocks Ltd director B S N Suryanarayan, Mumbai-based KE International's chief financial officer Rajeev Aggarwal, and Mumbai's Essar Power Limited executive vice-chairman Sushil Kumar Maroo.

The CBI had registered a corruption case against its former director Ranjit Sinha on allegations of abusing his authority to scuttle enquiries, investigations and prosecutions in the coal block allocation cases. He happens to be the second CBI chief to have been booked by the agency in 2017. (ANI)
