G20 Summit: 'All-Veg' Menu, Millet-Based Dishes For World Leaders At Official Dinner

G20 Summit 2023: The menu for the leaders of G20 member nations will be dominated by innovative dishes made from millets and diverse Indian street food.

Leaders of the G20 countries and heads of international organisations converging in Delhi this weekend for the G20 Summit will be served an "all-vegetarian" meal -- no meat, no eggs -- at the official dinner, sources told ABP Live. The menu for other meals for the visiting delegates will also be dominated by local Indian flavours featuring innovative dishes made from millets and diverse street food.

The 18th annual G20 Leaders' Summit, slated to be held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, is one of the most high-profile international summits being hosted by India.

Apart from the security of the visiting leaders and the delegates, attention has also been given to food as well.

Millets will be the main ingredient on the menu of the world leaders as 2023 is being observed as the International Year of Millets (IYM). The initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was put forward at the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 to promote indigenous grains of the country.

The global leaders and delegates will also get to taste the culinary delights of Old Delhi's Chandni Chowk, a renowned hub for Indian street food.

Muktesh Pardeshi, G20 India Special Secretary, said chefs were working diligently to craft a menu encapsulating the essence of India's rich culinary heritage.

"In some innovative manner, there would be an introduction to street food, and local and regional cuisines of India. The chefs are working overtime to finalize the menu, keeping all aspects in mind. But certainly, there will be some exposure," Pardeshi told PTI.

Hotels where world leaders and delegates will be accommodated will also present innovative millet-based dishes.

In fact, millet-based dishes were on the menu during the working group meetings held throughout the year by India.

During the fourth G20 Culture Working Group and Culture Ministers' Meeting at Taj Ganges hotel in Varanasi, the delegates were served a special menu featuring dishes like Ragi Litti and Chokha.
