Covid-19 which has symptoms similar to dengue and malaria such as fever, itching in throat, body ache, extreme fatigue, intestinal problems makes it difficult to distinguish from each other.
Vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria are on the rise with the onset of monsoon, but amid Corona people are confused about how to find out the cause of the problem because of the similar symptoms between the three diseases. Fever, headache and fatigue is experienced in all three diseases. "The cause of dengue and Covid-19 is a virus," explains Dr. Sandeep B. Gore of Fortis Hospital Mulund, while the cause behind malaria disease is parasite. All situations have special similar symptoms, which can confuse how to distinguish between the three."
How to distinguish between malaria, dengue and Covid-19: The loss of smell and taste, heaviness in the chest, cough, and breathing problems are specific to Covid-19 infections. The doctor says that a clear symptom of Covid-19 is loss of taste and smell. This is not the case with dengue or malaria. "Covid-19 is a respiratory disease, shortness of breath, uncomfortable chest pain that does not usually occur in patients suffering from malaria or dengue," he continued. However, he stressed that it is best to see a doctor and get oneself examined as soon as possible.
According to Dr Sudha Menon at Fortis Hospital Bengaluru, symptoms of cough, cold, sore throat, loss of taste and smell and breathlessness are among the symptoms of covid. Dengue can cause nausea, pungent taste, fever, eye pain, and rashes. Malaria can cause terrible cold, fever, and frequent sweating.
How can Covid-19, Dengue and Malaria spread?
Covid-19 is air-borne and is transmitted through other humans, while dengue and malaria are caused by mosquito bites. The corona virus is mainly transmitted by respiratory droplets, due to talking, sneezing, and coughing. On the other hand, dengue is caused by four different types of viruses and infects a person when an infected Aedes mosquito bites him/her. When an infected female Anopheles mosquito bites a person, he/she gets infected with malaria.
