Covid-19 Vaccine Moderna To Reach India By This Week: Source
After Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik, the Moderna vaccine will be the fourth vaccine for Covid-19 to be available in India.
In India, efforts are being made to vaccinate the maximum number of people by the government, expediting the most powerful vaccination campaign in the war against Corona.
For this reason, India is acquiring as many vaccines plausible after careful scurtiny. For that reason, the vaccine prepared by the American company Moderna can reach India this week. News agency ANI has given this information quoting sources.
Drugs Controller General (DCGI) has allowed Cipla to import Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use. After Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik, the Moderna vaccine will be the fourth vaccine for Covid-19 to be available in India.
“DCGI has permitted Cipla to import Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for limited emergency use in the country as per the provisions of the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019 under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940," a source said.
At a time when a new delta variant is continuously spreading in the world, it is important to know how effective the Modern vaccine is against this variant. The Moderna vaccine was found to be 94 percent effective in the third phase during clinical trials in the United States. But it needs to be kept at a very low temperature.
Moderna informed DCGI in a letter on June 27 that the US government has agreed to donate a specific number of doses of its COVID-19 vaccine, 'Covovax', to the Indian government. Also, it has sought approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) for this.
