Covid-19: Sweating During Sleep? Scientist Suggests This New Symptom Of Omicron Variant
Omicron Variant BA 5: “One extra symptom from BA.5 I saw this morning is night sweats," Professor Luke O’Neill from Trinity College Dublin told an Irish radio station, reported The Independent.
New Delhi: Several symptoms of Covid-19 have been reported in the last two-and-a-half years as new variants of the virus were discovered with fever, loss of sense of smell and taste, and shortness of breath being the initial classic signs of contracting the infection. But with new variants of the virus and an increased rate of vaccination, people experiencing new symptoms were reported, for example, at present a person infected with coronavirus may experience gut-related symptoms instead of loss of sense of smell and taste. Sore throat, sneezing persistent cough, and headache have been reported as recent symptoms of the infection.
However, an addition has been made to these symptoms which were never linked to the disease before.
Night Sweats - The New Covid-19 Symptom
People in the United Kingdom --- which is witnessing a sharp spike in cases of Covid-19 led by the Omicron BA.5 variant --- are complaining of night sweats, as per a report by the Independent. “One extra symptom from BA.5 I saw this morning is night sweats," Professor Luke O’Neill from Trinity College Dublin told an Irish radio station earlier this week as per the report.
Responding to why people are experiencing new symptoms, Prof O’Neill said, “The disease is slightly different because the virus has changed."
“There is some immunity to it - obviously with the T-cells and so on - and that mix of your immune system and the virus being slightly different might give rise to a slightly different disease, strangely enough, night sweats being a feature," he added.
Reiterating the importance of the vaccine, he said “But very importantly, if you are vaccinated and you’re boosted, it doesn’t progress into severe disease is the message to keep reminding people."
