Coronavirus: Delhi Reels Under Worst Covid-19 Onslaught, Shatters Record For Single-Day Deaths

Amid the ongoing festive season, Delhi has seen an alarming rising spike in the number of cases in recent weeks, shattering its previous records of single-day infections and fatalities.

Delhi Coronavirus: The national capital New Delhi continues to face the worst stage of the Covid-19 pandemic ever since its outbreak in the country as it reported the highest single-day spike fatalities in 24 hours. On Thursday the city is reported to have seen 104 deaths while the daily infection also remained high as 7,053. Total 60229 samples were tested  in the last 24 hours. Amid the ongoing festive season, Delhi has seen an alarming rising spike in the number of cases in recent weeks, shattering its previous records of single-day infections and fatalities. The spike in cases also coincide with the onset of winters, rising pollution and the busy festival season. A look at Delhi’s Covid-19 figures: The national capital has reported over 450,000 cases so far, 43,116 of which are active. With this, the overall case tally has reached 4,67,028 while the cumulative causality stands at 7,053. In total, 53,22,274 tests have been performed so far in the national capital. Delhi has a positivity rate of 11.71 per cent while the case fatality rate stands at 1.57 per cent. The national capital had recorded its highest single-day spike of 8,593 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, while 85 deaths linked to the disease were recorded on that day. 80 per cent ICU beds in private hospitals to be reserved for covid patients Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court slowed the AAP government to reserve 80 per cent of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients in 33 private hospitals. The move came as shot in the arm for the city dispensation which was struggling to ramp up health infrastructure in view of a sudden spike in cases.
