Turmeric is identified for its numerous benefits. Despite its many health benefits, turmeric carries some side effects too. Know about them here.

Turmeric milk is popular for a good reason as it is known for providing extremely powerful health benefits. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory agent that helps in reducing allergic symptoms and promoting immunity.

But despite all the benefits of turmeric, there are some health risks associated with it. Although turmeric is permitted in normal conditions, it is always helpful to know its possible side effects.

Here are some details about the possible side effects of Turmeric:

Digestive problems

Turmeric contains many active ingredients including curcumin, which is beneficial for our health. Curcumin can be extracted and sold as a supplement separate from turmeric. However, research by Cancer Prevention Research has attributed turmeric to diarrhoea, bloating or other digestive problems in some people. These side effects are rare but can happen by consuming too much turmeric regularly.

Headaches and nausea

Curcumin is a powerful oxidant that's why many people prefer to take it in the form of supplements. Although curcumin is beneficial to us in many ways, some studies has revealed that it has some potential side effects.

Another research highlighted that curcumin can cause headaches or nausea. This is a rare side effect and only a few people have experienced it. If you are using turmeric more than the required amount and are experiencing headaches or nausea, then you can consider reducing its intake.

Turmeric is bright and yellow in colour and it is used to give natural colour in many parts of the world. When you cook with turmeric, especially fresh turmeric, it is most likely that your hands and nails get a yellow colour stain. However, the stain is temporary and is washed away from your skin shortly. Another side effect of Turmeric is that it can affect your gallbladder.

So while you can enjoy the benefits of the common kitchen ingredient, you must also avoid excess consumption to protect your health from other issues.
