Fact Check: Partial Clip Shared To Accuse BJP Chief JP Nadda Of Insulting Constitution
A video of BJP president and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda speaking in the Upper House of Parliament is being shared to claim that he kept the Indian Constitution ‘near his feet’.

- The Verdict: False A longer version of the video shows that while the Constitution does slip from his hand, he picks it up and puts it on the table.
What’s the claim?
A video of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash (JP) Nadda speaking in the Upper House of the Parliament is being shared to claim that he kept the Indian Constitution "near his feet". This video was also shared by the official X account of the Telangana Youth Congress, Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata, the former president of the Indian Youth Congress, and Sanjna Jatav, the Congress member of Parliament representing Bharatpur, Rajasthan.
In the 13-second clip, he is seen holding up a large copy of the Constitution and speaking before it appears to slip from his hands and fall near his feet. The camera then cuts to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, India’s Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, before the clip ends.

The caption of these posts allege that Nadda disrespected the Indian Constitution. Archived links to the posts can be found here, here, here, and here.
However, we found that in the full footage of the Parliament session, Nadda can be initially seen struggling to keep the book down when it slips, but when the camera goes back to him a little later, it is visible that he has kept it next to him. CCTV footage from the Parliament shared online also shows that Nadda picked up the Constitution after it fell on the ground.
What did we find?
A keyword search of recent Rajya Sabha sessions on YouTube led us to a video (archived here) uploaded by the Indian news channel CNN-News 18. The video live-streamed coverage of the Rajya Sabha Parliament Budget session held on February 11, 2025, when the incident happened.
After reviewing the video, we found that the incident shared in the viral posts took place at the 12:40 mark. Here, we can see Nadda losing his grip on the Constitution; it appears to slip from his hands just as the camera cuts back to Dhankhar.
However, the next time Nadda is on screen, at the 15:55 mark of the same video, the Constitution appears to be on his bench next to him, from where he picks it up while speaking. This implies that he picked up the copy after it initially fell from his hands.
Taking a cue from this, a Hindi keyword search on social media led us to an X post (archived here) by BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi, in which he addressed this claim and shared uninterrupted CCTV footage of the incident, capturing Nadda’s movements. In this 15-second clip, Nadda is seen losing grip of the Constitution, picking it up from the ground and keeping it back on his table at the 0:08 timestamp. He is then seen picking it back up for display.

This confirms that while Nadda struggled with the Constitution and lost his grip on it, he did not place it on the floor but back on the table and later on the seat next to him.
The verdict
The video is clipped from footage where Nadda seems to have placed the Constitution near his feet. However, in the live coverage of the Parliament session and from different angles, it is visible that he later picks it up and places it on his bench.
