Mirzapur controversy: A team of Uttar Pradesh police officers was stopped from entering the premises of Amazon Prime Video by the Mumbai Police on Friday (January 22). The UP police officials have reached Mumbai to investigate the FIR registered against the makers for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. As per the latest update, the Mirzapur cops visited the office of Amazon Prime Video but they didn’t find any person.


Earlier in the day, the UP cops alleged that they were denied the necessary permission by the Mumbai police to conduct an investigation in the matter. According to rules, the police team which comes from another state to Mumbai has to take permission from Mumbai Police's Nodal Officer (Crime Branch DCP) to start investigation in any case.


A scuffle reportedly broke out between the Mirzapur cops and Mumbai police over the controversy surrounding the web series.

Mirzapur police team couldn’t get the required permission from DCP Akbar Pathan of Crime Branch due to his non-availability. After the team didn’t receive any cooperation from Mumbai police, it headed to Khar from Andheri and went to Farhan Akhtar’s residence. Mumbai police apprised Khar police station of the development after they came to know about it.


Khar police station officers arrived at Farhan’s house in Mumbai in no time and they asked the UP cops to take required permission before conducting the probe. They warned their UP counterparts to follow the rules and take permission. The UP police team left the ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ actor’s residence after this.


On a related note, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the OTT platform and makers of ‘Mirzapur’, seeking a response on a plea which alleged that they maligned the image of the city. The top court sought responses from Amazon Prime Video, Farhan Aktar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment Pvt Ltd and Centre in the matter.

‘Mirzapur’ featured Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Divyendu Sharma, Ali Fazal and Vikrant Massey in key roles. The second season of series released on October 23, 2020 on Amazon Prime Video.
