Leading OTT platform Amazon Prime India has remained in limelight for all the wrong reasons. The streaming giant landed into a pool of controversies after several complaints were filed against Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Tandav’. If this was not enough, a cae was registered against the makers of ‘Mirzapur’ at Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments.

In his complaint, Arvind Chaturvedi alleged that the makers tried to tarnish the image of state. He accused them of ‘hurting religious, social and regional sentiments and spreading disharmony in the society’. The UP Police officials have reached Mumbai to investigate the FIR against the makers of ‘Mirzapur’.

'Mirzapur', which is one of the most popular web series, has been mired in controversies several times. Many political leaders had expressed their displeasure over the content when it released on Amazon Prime. Mirzapur's MP and Apna Dal S national President, Anupriya Patel had tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in her post to demand an inquiry against the series. She accused the makers of spreading ethnic discord through their series.

On a related note, the Supreme Court issued a notice to Amazon Prime Video and makers of ‘Mirzapur’, seeking a response on a plea which alleged that they maligned the image of the city.

The apex court sought a response from Amazon Prime Video, Excel Entertainment Pvt Ltd and the Centre. The petitioner contended that the Central government should set up rules and regulation for films, web series and shows which release on OTT platforms.

“Mirzapur had rich cultural value but in 2018, Excel Entertainment has launched a web series named Mirzapur of nine episodes in which they have shown Mirzapur a city of goons and adulteress,” the plea said as quoted by PTI.

‘Mirzapur’ featured Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Harshita Gaur, Shweta Tripathi, Vikrant Massey, and Divyendu Sharma, Rasika Duggal in key roles. The second season of the hit series premiered on October 23.
