Mirzapur Web Series Controversy Amid the exacerbating controversy around web series ‘Mirzapur’, a scuffle seems to have broken out between Mirzapur cops and Mumbai police. The incident took place when the team of police from Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur arrived at residence of actor Farhan Akhtar for interrogation. They have alleged that they have been denied the necessary permission by Mumbai police to conduct a prbe over the FIR filed against the web series.

It is to be noted that the UP Police officials have reached Mumbai to investigate the FIR against the makers of ‘Mirzapur’ lodged at Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments.


As per the rules, the police team from another state which comes to Mumbai, has to obtain the permission of the Mumbai Police's Nodal Officer (Crime Branch DCP) to investigate any case.


Mirzapur police team has been doing rounds of the office of DCP Akbar Pathan of Crime Branch for the last 2 days but due to his non-availability it hasn’t been granted the required permission yet.  On Thursday as well, they did not receive any cooperation from Mumbai police, after which the team headed to Khar from Andheri and went to Farhan Akhtar’s residence. Mumbai police which immediately received an information regarding their move apprised local Khar Police station of the development.

Soon after, a team from Khar police station also arrived at Farhan Khan’s residence and a scuffle broke out between the two police units as they asked their UP counterparts to leave the office and take due permission before starting their investigation. Mumbai police warned those from UP to follow the rules, get proper permission and then only proceed to conduct inquiries. The Mirzapur unit had to leave Akhtar’s residence after this.


Speaking to ABP News on Thursday morning, Mirzapur police team's SHO B.A. Chaurasia said that an FIR has been lodged in the Kotwali police station about the Mirzapur web series. A case is registered against Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Bhowmik and Amazon Prime in this regard and an investigation will begin after acquiring the necessary permits.


Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday sought responses from the Centre, Amazon Prime Video and Excel Entertainment Pvt Ltd on a plea which has alleged that the web series Mirzapur' has completely tarnished the historical and cultural image of the place by showing it as a city of goons. A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde issued notices on the plea which alleged that showing shameless things in the name of Mirzapur is an insult to the rich culture of the city.
