Television actor Krystle D’souza has opened up about the early days of her career when she was criticised for her skin tone and even offered a strange tip to supposedly improve her appearance.

When Krystle D'souza was asked to wash herself with milk

In a conversation with News 16, Krystle recalled those moments and shared, “People gave me a lot of free advice in the past and they still do. I’ve also been called dusky. I remember receiving this advice that I should wash myself with milk so that my skin looks fair. I kept thinking to myself that I’m allergic to milk, toh uska kya? I didn’t want to be gora. I’m an Indian. I’m very, very desi and I love my skin colour. Why should I become fair?”

Krystle wore brown lenses to hide her eye's natural colour

Krystle’s experiences with beauty standards didn’t stop at her complexion. She was also told to alter her eye colour, which led her to wear brown contact lenses for nearly a decade. “My eyes are green. From 2008-2009 to 2019 when I did Fittrat, I wore brown lenses every day of my life because they said I won’t look like a positive character if my eyes are green. I don’t know why but I believed them and put on dark brown lenses for almost ten years,” she told News18.

However, Krystle now stands firm against such judgments, and she credits an important moment on the set of Fittrat for helping her embrace her true self. “People who knew me were aware that I had green eyes, but others who saw me on screen assumed my eyes were naturally brown. Today, if anyone tries to tell me otherwise, I won’t give in. I’ve realized that when you look into someone’s eyes, you can see their truth. During Fittrat, my director told me, ‘Enough! Get rid of those lenses. I love your eyes.’ That really changed my perspective.”

Krystle D’Souza was last seen in the thriller film ‘Visfot.’
