Kapil Sharma's old video goes viral
The viral clip features Kapil Sharma making a humorous observation about the nation’s obsession with cricket, particularly among youngsters. Kapil joked about how students struggle to wake up early for exams but have no trouble doing so for a cricket match.
“Kai toh itne shaukeen hote hain, subah 2 baje hi uth jaate hain. Cricket dekhne ke liye. Cricket ka match shuru hona hota hai 4 baje. Phir ye maa baap ki kabaddi dekh ke so jaate hain (Some are such fans that they wake up at 2 am for a 4 am match. So they watch their parents wrestle and go back to sleep),” Kapil quipped. His remark drew mixed reactions from the audience and even a visibly surprised Archana Puran Singh.

In the episode, Kapil further clarified his statement, saying, “Matlab maa baap ladrahe hote haina (I mean parents are often fighting).”
Netizens react
The Instagram post reignited a debate, with the caption questioning, “Why this issue wasn’t raised?” The video quickly amassed hundreds of comments, with divided opinions on whether the joke was appropriate.
One user remarked, “And people say this is a family show.” Another expressed disappointment, writing, “I highly respected Kapil Sharma, but no one will criticise him for such jokes because he has the entire Bollywood backing him. However, if an independent, self-made person makes a joke, the whole country turns against them.”
Another comment argued that Kapil’s joke was more subtle compared to others, stating, “Saying something directly and indirectly are two different things. That’s what ‘limits’ mean.” Some defended Kapil, asserting that his humour wasn’t as explicit as the recent controversy involving India’s Got Latent participants.

The India’s Got Latent controversy
The backlash against India’s Got Latent erupted after Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate remark during a recent episode. He asked a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents having sex for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”
The comment sparked widespread outrage, leading to a formal complaint being filed against Allahbadia, influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina, and the organisers of India’s Got Latent.
Samay Raina on Wednesday reacted to the entire controversy and removed all the episodes of the show from YouTube.
