A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sharing a pirated version of the recently released Malayalam action thriller Marco on social media by the Kochi Cyber Crime Police on Friday. The film released on December 20 was directed by Haneef Adeni with Unni Mukundan playing the lead role. 


The arrest was made on Friday in response to a complaint submitted by Sherif Mohammed, the film's producer. The producer reported the movie's unauthorized distribution via social media channels. He also stated that the piracy difficulties could result in major financial losses for the production team.


Along with the complaint, Sherif Mohammed reportedly provided crucial information on the accounts involved in the piracy.


According to the police, the accused had shared a link to the pirated copy of Marco on Instagram, as per a report on PTI.


Meanwhile, the arrest comes shortly after three individuals were detained for circulating a pirated copy of another film, ARM. With this, the police have launched a broader investigation into the piracy network.


Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on piracy and urged the public to refrain from sharing or downloading pirated content to support the film industry.

Released globally during the Christmas weekend, Marco, has earned praise for its intense storyline and performances. It has also achieved the milestone of being the highest-grossing A-rated Malayalam film, surpassing Kammatipaadam.


The film features Unni Mukundan in the lead role, supported by a cast including Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu S Thilakan, Kabir Duhan Singh, Anson Paul, and Yukti Tareja.


Since its release, the movie certified as 'A' and it is said to be one of the most brutal violent movies in Indian cinema, has garnered critical acclaim.


On Day 8 of release on Saturday, Marco earned Rs 29.95 crore overall in India.
