Ranbir Kapoor To Not Play Lead In Bhansali’s ‘Baiju Bawra’; Quashes Rumour Saying ‘I Haven’t Been Offered Any Film From Him’

New Delhi: Last year, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced his next directorial venture – the musical saga, ‘Baiju Bawra’. As the filmmaker is currently busy in filming his upcoming movie ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, no announcement on the lead actor has been made so far. However, earlier, there were reports doing the rounds that Ranbir Kapoor will be playing the lead character in ‘Baiju Bawra’ It was also reported that the ‘Brahmastra’ actor will romance his ladylove Alia Bhatt and ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial. When questioned about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Baiju Bawra’, Ranbir said, “No, it’s a complete rumour. I haven’t been offered any film from him.” Ranbir Kapoor made his debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2007 film ‘Saawariya’. This movie also marked the debut of Bollywood diva Sonam Kapoor. This romantic film was based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1848 short story ‘White Nights’ and was the first Bollywood film to receive a North American release by a Hollywood studio. ‘Baiju Bawra’ will tell the revenge story of a maverick maestro. This movie will be a remake of the classic 1952 Hindi film with the same name. Then directed by Vijay Bhatt, this movie proved to be both commercially and critically successful. ‘Baiju Bawra’ (1952) starred Meena Kumari and Bharat Bhushan in the main leads and story revolves around Baiju's attempt to avenge his father's death by challenging Tansen to a musical duel.
