Koffee With Karan: Sunny Deol Shares He Had Requested Akshay Kumar To Move OMG 2 Release Date
Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol appeared on the second episode of the celebrity talk show Koffee With Karan Season 8.
New Delhi: Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol appeared on the second episode of the celebrity talk show Koffee With Karan Season 8. Sunny, who made the second appearance on the show, spoke about the clash of his film Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2. Sunny said that he wanted to avert the box office clash of both films and had called Akshay requesting him to change the release date of OMG 2, but the actor said that it was out of his hands.
Karan Johar congratulated Sunny for Gadar 2’s humongous success and asked if he tried to move OMG 2’s date to avert the clash. The actor replied, “Obviously, I asked him. I said, ‘Please don’t do it if it’s in your hands’. But he said, ‘No, the studio and all…'”
The actor further said that he was told that ‘two films can release’ together at the box office and do well. “I said, ‘Okay, go ahead, I can just request, I can’t do anything more than that’.”
Both Gadar 2 and OMG 2 did well at the box office. While Sunny Deol starrer collected more than Rs 600 crore globally, Akshay Kumar film earned over Rs 200 crore worldwide.
Karan Johar also asked Sunny about his comment on filmmakers and production houses inflating box office numbers. To this, Sunny replied, “That does happen. That’s the way society is moving right now.” Karan Johar then said, “Is that why the tagline of Gadar 2 was Hindustan ka asli blockbuster?”
Incidentally, Gadar 2’s prequel Gadar also had a clash with Aamir Khan’s Lagaan in 2001 and both the films did very well with Sunny’s film beating Lagaan in box office numbers. Lagaan got an Oscar nomination as well.
'Koffee with Karan' Season 8 streams on Disney+ Hotstar. The first episode saw Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh gracing the couch.
