Actor Ajay Devgn and director Rohit Shetty graced the couch in the latest episode of Koffee With Karan season 8 hosted by Karan Johar.

New Delhi: Actor Ajay Devgn and director Rohit Shetty graced the couch in the latest episode of Koffee With Karan season 8. Both the guests spoke about many things including family, their work, friendship, new actors, and more.

Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn's friendship
Talking about their 33-year-old association, Karan Johar said, “Firstly, I have to say, this is the true legacy right? This is a 33-year-old association and friendship and 14 years ago you cast Ajay in your first film”

To which Rohit Shetty replied, “20 years ago”

Laughingly, Karan Johar says, “Oh God, my math fails me. Ohh yeah, you were an AD on Ajay’s first film, Phool aur Kaante”

Rohit Shetty replied, “Yes, Suhaag Haqeeqat, then all the production films, Pyaar Toh Hona Tha, Raju Chacha, all of them.”

“How many films did you assist Ajay?” asked Karan Johar

Rohit Shetty replied, “ More than 10 - 12 films”

Rohit and Ajay on current actors
During the episode, show host Karan Johar asked them: “What do you think about the newer generation of actors? Do you think they have that fighting spirit?”

Responding to the same, Rohit said they are insecure mostly because of social media. He said: “I think too much insecurity or too much validation they need from social media, from people they don’t know. I think they are very insecure, I mean I don’t know why, but maybe they have their own thing because they are born in this generation.”

Karan then asked the duo if the newer actors overthink, as he said: “How easily y’all did two-three hero films. I don’t see that happening today. I don’t think they have the security of doing two-three hero films.”

Ajay touched upon the aspect of indecisiveness of the current crop of actors. He said: “I don’t think they have the security of doing solos also. They take 3 years to decide if they have to do this or that.”

Ajay Devgn on failures in the film industry

Karan Johar asked him, "Do you think you have seen the harshness of what the industry can be to failure?”

Ajay replied: "We have seen it, we have seen people getting ruined and I have seen people coming and struggling here and some of them I know, say we give ourselves one year, if something happens, we’ll do something, otherwise wouldn't know what to do and go back. And there is this slight hope."

The actor further mentioned: "Every six months, you go to an office, you want work and they say hum batate hai aapko, toh usme ek saal aur nikal jata hai, toh aise karte karte, 30-40 saal nikal jaate hai, chahe woh aap film industry ke ho ya na ho, struggle sabke liye barabar hai aur hard work toh utna karna hi padta, everybody has to do that yaar."

Adding to it, Rohit said: "It just goes on. It never ends."

Koffee With Karan streams on Disney+ Hotstar.
