Kanguva OTT release: Suriya and Bobby Deol’s ambitious fantasy-action film 'Kanguva' is gearing up for its OTT debut after a lackluster run in theatres. The streaming platform Prime Video announced on Friday that the film will be available for streaming starting on December 8, but with a catch—it will only be released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, leaving Hindi-speaking audiences disappointed.

When and where to watch Kanguva on OTT

Prime Video shared the update on Instagram alongside a poster of Kanguva featuring Suriya and Bobby Deol, captioned, “A tale as old as time & a LEGACY that lives on. KANGUVA arrives to settle it all. #KanguvaOnPrime, December 8.” While fans from South India are eagerly awaiting the release, many netizens expressed frustration over the absence of a Hindi version.

Kangua's response

The film, which hit theatres on November 14, received a mixed response from critics and audiences alike. While Suriya’s performance in the dual roles of Francis and Kanguva earned praise, the film was criticised for its over-the-top presentation and excessive noise. This lukewarm reception heavily impacted its box office collections.

Produced on a staggering budget of ₹350 crore, 'Kanguva' managed to rake in only ₹106 crore globally, falling significantly short of expectations. Earlier, producer KE Gnanavel Raja had expressed high hopes for the film, stating in an interview with Galatta, “I am expecting ₹2000 crore box office collection, and why are you underestimating it with ₹1000 crore mark.” Unfortunately, the film could not live up to these lofty predictions.

About Kanguva

Directed by Siva, 'Kanguva' boasts a star-studded cast, including Suriya in dual roles, Bobby Deol as the villainous Udhiran, and Disha Patani in a key role. The ensemble also features Natarajan Subramaniam, K.S. Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, and Kovai Sarala.

One of the most expensive Tamil films ever made, 'Kanguva' was shot across seven countries and released in 35 languages—a record-breaking feat for Indian cinema. Despite its grand scale and visual appeal, the film struggled to connect with audiences, leading to its early OTT release.
