Exclusive | I Don't Like Playing The Typical Hero Role Always: Guilty Minds Fame Varun Mitra
In a candid conversation, Varun Mitra said that he doesn't like playing the typical Bollywood 'Hero'.
'The Guilty Minds' fame actor Varun Mitra was recently seen in the Disney+Hotstar web series titled 'Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo'. The series featured Dimple Kapadia as a Drug Lord and Varun as one of her sons, Kapil. Varun shared his experience of playing the role of Kapil with ABP Live in an exclusive interview. In the interview, he talks about how OTT platforms have helped him to fulfill his belief of not being stuck to a constant. Meanwhile, Varun's new movie Tejas, opposite Kangana Ranaut, will hit the theatres in around August.
During the candid interview, Varun Mitra spoke about his experience during the shooting of the series and also shared some exclusive bits.
While responding to a question on how OTT has helped actors to explore themselves better, Varun said, "OTT has given us a platform to experiment and play our parts in depth. Bollywood mainly just ends up becoming the typical 'Hero' whereas on OTT we are able to play other characters as well which are non-hero type. Say in this series, I loved playing the role of Kapil. He is not the lead yet his character is so important and challenging."
He further said, "I don't like being a constant like being type-casted in roles which are similar. I like change. It is more exciting. Kapil is more real than those similar roles. The audience will connect to Kapil much more than those roles. And even I as an actor will remember this role for a long time."
Varun said that the depth and the growth that Kapil had in the series was something that challenged and excited him. As per the briefing received by Director Homi Adajania, he said that Kapil was supposed to evolve with each scene and that is the reason why we saw the transition of Kapil being in formals at the start of the series to him being in Kurta Pyjama towards the end. He expanded that the voice modulation training that he took earlier really helped him with shaping this character's voice.
While sharing some exclusive bits from the sets he said that the whole crew bonded like a family. He added, "We were shooting in a desert together for like 3-4 months, eating together, staying together. And just 2-3 days after the shooting began, we forgot who is who. We just bonded together like a family, shared laughter and worth cherishing moments."
He talked about a funny incident from the sets where he had to shoot a love-making scene with his on-screen wife Kajal (Played by Angira Dhar) after which he was left handcuffed to a bed for a good ten minutes.
