New Delhi: Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday (August 15) by sharing a post on his official Instagram handle. MS Dhoni, who is known as the master finisher, has decided to call it a day after an illustrious 15-year-old career in cricket. Fans trended the hashtag #ThankYouMahi on Twitter to pay a tribute to their favourite Mahi.

MS Dhoni shared a video compilation of some his best cricketing moments while announcing his retirement. He wrote, “Thanks. Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”



Interestingly, the song ‘Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon’, crooned by Mukesh, played in the background of the video montage. The popular number from the film ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ is one of MS Dhoni’s favourite songs. He even sang two lines from the hit number at an event. The video went viral on social media in no time. Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli shared a heartfelt post for MS Dhoni on Twitter.

“Every cricketer has to end his journey one day, but still when someone you've gotten to know so closely announces that decision, you feel the emotion much more. What you've done for the country will always remain in everyone's heart,” Kohli tweeted.



Dhoni's 'Chennai Super Kings' co-star Suresh Raina has also announced his retirement from international cricket. The star cricketer made the announcement by sharing a photo with MSD and other team members. He wrote, "It was nothing but lovely playing with you, @mahi7781 . With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you in this journey. Thank you India. Jai Hind!"
