The box collection of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is predicted to expand in the next few days because of its lack of competitors and positive word of mouth.
New Delhi: Mani Ratnam's ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ had a successful opening weekend. The movie opened in theatres on April 28th in five languages. The second installment of the historical epic is doing phenomenally well at the box office. The film's popularity and impressive ensemble helped it break the Rs 200 crore global mark in only four days. The box collection of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is predicted to expand in the next few days because of its lack of competitors and positive word of mouth.
The movie had a fairly strong hold for a film of this scale, with just a 23% dip on its first Monday, as reported by Sacnilk. The film added another Rs 23.25 crore to its domestic net total, bringing the grand total to Rs 103.75 crore after four days of release. There have been contributions of Rs 80 crore from the Tamil version, Rs 9.1 crore from both the Hindi and Telugu versions, and Rs 5 crore from the Malayalam version.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the official numbers on his social media, writing, "PS2’ AMASSES MASSIVE NUMBERS… #ManiRatnam’s #PonniyinSelvan2 [#PS2] continues to cast a spell at the #BO… Rewriting record books!"
It will be interesting to see whether PS 2 will earn more than Rs 500 crore at the box office globally or not.
The film review on ABP Live reads: “The film has put itself in a separate league where the drama takes centre stage as opposed to flashy action sequences, despite the internet drawing parallels to the epic 'Baahubali'. The only time we see swords clashing and a gory battlefield is during the final moments, but the political drama keeps you glued every step of the way. 'Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2' is one of the rare sequels that not only lives up to, but much exceeds, the expectations spawned by the first part.”
'Ponniyin Selvan 1' went on to make approximately Rs 490 crores around the world, ranking third among Indian films for the year in terms of box office revenue. Mani Ratnam, B Jeyamohan, and Elango Kumaravel adapted the movie from a classic Tamil novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, R Sarathkumar, Jayaram, Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, and Prakash Raj are among the actors who appear in 'Ponniyin Selvan 2'. Academy Award winner AR Rahman wrote the soundtrack for the flicks.
