Pathaan: Shah Rukh Khan Starrer Is First Hindi Film With Rs 100 Crore Opening Day Worldwide

Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ has exceeded all expectations in terms of box office numbers, and viewers’ response to the film. The film is smashing one box office record after another.

New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ has exceeded all expectations in terms of box office numbers, and viewers’ response to the film. The film is smashing one box office record after another within just a day of its release. 

The film has registered a record opening of Rs 57 crore nett across India, out of which Rs 55 crore is from the Hindi version and the remaining Rs 2 crore from the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions.  

Not only this, the film, which also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, has made $4.5M in the international markets, bringing the worldwide gross of the film to Rs 106 crore. With this, it has become the first Hindi film to collect more than Rs 100 crore gross in a single day. 

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the box office numbers of the film. He wrote, “‘PATHAAN’: ₹ 106 CR *GROSS* ON DAY 1 WORLDWIDE… #Pathaan demolishes #Worldwide opening day records for #Hindi films… #India + #Overseas *Gross* BOC on *Day 1* is ₹ 106 cr. PHENOMENAL.”   

 

26 January being a holiday, the film is expected to perform even better on its second day of release. According to Taran Adarsh, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer is expected to earn Rs 67 crore on second day.  

He wrote, “#Pathaan at *national chains*… Day 2… Update: 6.30 pm. #PVR: 12.55 cr #INOX: 10.55 cr #Cinepolis 5.63 cr Total: ₹ 28.73 cr PHENOMENAL. Note: #Pathaan *entire Day 1* at *national chains* was ₹ 27.08 cr. Day 2 HINDI can touch ₹ 64 cr / ₹ 65 cr. #India biz.” 

 

Talking about the humongous success of the film, Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, said, “It is a historic day for Indian cinema and we are humbled to see the love and appreciation that is flowing for Pathaan globally. For Pathaan to shatter records in this fashion on a non-holiday, just proves that the theatrical business is here to stay, provided we make films that entice people to come to the cinemas to witness a never seen before experience that entertains them thoroughly.“

‘Pathaan’ is part of Aditya Chopra’s ambitious spy universe. The film has been directed by Siddharth Anand.
