LSD 2 Filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee Says ‘We Are Showing The Film To Transphobic Society’
Dibakar Banerjee said that ‘LSD 2’ aims to challenge the notion of transphobia ingrained within our society.
New Delhi: Filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee, known for his bold and thought-provoking narratives, has stirred conversations yet again with his latest project ‘LSD 2’. In a recent statement, Dibakar Banerjee discussed the themes of his upcoming film, expressing a poignant message about societal perceptions. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, he said that ‘LSD 2’ aims to challenge the notion of transphobia ingrained within our society.
Dibakar Banerjee revealed that ‘LSD 2’ features two transgender characters - one is portrayed by a real transgender actress and one by an actor.
He said, "In our film, there are two trans characters. One is portrayed by a transgender actress (Bonita Rajpurohit), and one by an actor.”
He added, “Choosing one transgender was not a problem at all. But, the commercial told me that if we take two transgender actors, then the film might become a little niche. We said if we take two transgender actors, then the film might become a little niche. Because of the transgender phobia you're making a film about, we have to sell it to that same transgender-phobic society. So if you go with one more transgender actor or actress, then maybe fewer people will come. Then, what you want to say about transgender phobia, no one will listen. We know that the society we are showing the film to is transphobic and queer-phobic. Now, to show them, we had to try various methods.”
Talking about the research he did for the film Dibakar said, “I was talking to my friend, a transgender, who became our friend during the shoot of the film. When we did research with him at the time, she said that transgender means risk, morning to evening risk. The transgender community is very sexually objectified and they are seen as an object.”
