Laxmmi Bomb: Akshay Kumar & Kiara Advani’s Film To Have Direct-to-web Release Amid Coronavirus Crisis?

Laxmmi Bomb might premiere on an OTT platform instead of having a theatrical release amid the Coronavirus crisis.

New Delhi: The Coronavirus pandemic has severely affected the functioning of many countries of the world including India. The COVID-19 outbreak has taken a hit on Bollywood and TV industry as several films have been delayed while the shootings for all movies, shows and ads have been halted due to the lockdown. The OTT platforms have bloomed and they have seen a surge in consumption as people are locked inside their houses. If a recent report in a leading daily is to be believed, then Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ might directly premiere on an OTT platform instead of having a theatrical release. The makers and Akshay are reportedly in talks with Disney+Hotstar to procure the release rights of ‘Laxmmi Bomb’. The Raghava Lawrence directorial is slated to hit the silver screens on May 22. However, a lot of post-production work including editing, mixing and background music has to be completed. “Akshay, director Raghava Lawrence and the producers are discussing the offer. There's a lot of post-production work left on the movie, including editing, background music, mixing and VFX. Since the team is working from home, the process is taking longer than usual. However, the makers are hoping to have the film ready by June. Although currently, the lockdown is on till May 3, theatres may continue to remain closed to ensure social distancing. In such a scenario, the team may consider having a direct-to-web release,” a source told Mid-Day.

Akshay Kumar, who will make his digital debut with in-the-works series 'The End', wants to ensure that none of the producers make a loss and the film reaches a wide audience. "Akshay wants to make sure none of the invested parties make losses, and that the movie reaches a wide audience. While Disney+Hotstar ensures a worldwide reach, making the film available across small towns in India will be a concern for them," the source further told the daily.
