Bombay HC Allows Annu Kapoor Starrer 'Humare Baarah' To Release After Makers Delete Objectionable Scenes

'Humare Baarah' will finally be released. The Bombay High Court on Wednesday has allowed the release of the film after the makers agreed to make changes in it.

New Delhi: 'Humare Baarah' will finally be released. The Annu Kapoor film has been in the spate of legal controversies ever since remarks around the film offending the religious sentiments of the Muslim community began doing the rounds. The Bombay High Court on Wednesday has allowed the release of the film after the makers agreed to make changes in it. The order was passed at 1:30 PM today.

Bombay High Court's decision

A division bench comprising Justice BP Colabawalla and Justice Firdosh Pooniwalla passed the order permitting the film's release a day after they noted that the Annu Kapoor film does not offend the religious sentiments of the Muslim community or distort the teachings of the Quran.

The Bombay High Court also observed that the film, which has been a topic of controversy, is in fact aimed at the empowerment and upliftment of women.

How the Humare Baarah controversy began

After the first trailer of the Annu Kapoor-film 'Humare Baarah' released, the film became a target of controversy, which the court found to be objectionable. The Bench saw the film and said that all such objectionable scenes have been deleted from the movie.

"The movie is in fact for the upliftment of women. The movie has a Maulana misinterpreting the Quran and in fact one Muslim man objects to the same in the scene. So this shows that people should apply their mind and not blindly follow such Maulanas," the high court is said to have stated, Live Law reported.

Annu Kapoor death threats

Earlier, Annu Kapoor had also received death threats over the upcoming film. The death threats began on social media and Kapoor approached the police regarding the same. In an interaction with HT, the veteran actor said, "Our writer for Hum Do Hamare Baaraah is a Muslim, he is suffering more right now because of the situation. I am an atheist. Police has had to visit the houses of the entire female cast too because of death threats. Some fanatics are protesting on social media and spreading hatred. As a precaution, we had to inform the police and court."

The film 'Humare Baarah' earlier titled 'Hum Do Humare Baarah' revolved around a man who is strict about his religious beliefs. Things got out of control because of this and the entire overpopulation peg became the source of contention amid many out there.

Earlier, the film had also been banned in Karnataka in order to prevent the spread of cimmunal hatres. As per an ANI report, the Karnataka government was worried that the film might incite communal tensions if it were to be distributes in the state.

The court also levied a fine of Rs. 5 lakh on the filmmakers for releasing the trailer with uncertified scenes, and directed that the amount be donated to a charity of the petitioner's choice.

“Violation was their vis-a-vis the trailer. So, you will have to pay something towards charity of the petitioner’s choice. Cost will have to be paid. This litigation has got the film so much unpaid publicity,” the court said.
