Sunny Deol Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar 2, which is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,’ has become the second-highest opener of 2023 after Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’.

New Delhi: It seems history is all set to repeat itself with Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel ‘Gadar 2’ in terms of its box office collection. The film, which is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,’ has become the second-highest opener of 2023 after Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film is expected to collect Rs 35 crore on its opening day, second to ‘Pathaan’, which did an opening of Rs 57 crore.

After ‘Gadar 2’, the other Hindi films in the list in terms of opening day numbers are Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (Rs 15.81 crore), Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (Rs 15.73 crore), Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (Rs 11.10 crore), and Bholaa (Rs 11.20 crore).

Hours before the release of the film, trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted that the film had sold 2,74,000 tickets in advance booking in national chains.

"#Gadar2 FINAL advance booking status at *national chains* [till Thu night]… Note: DAY 1 biz… #PVR: 1,16,000 #INOX: 1,01,000 #Cinepolis: 57,000 Total: 2,74,000 tickets sold "

Directed by Anil Sharma, the story of the film starts from where it was left in the prequel. Tara Singh goes to Pakistan this time to bring back his son (Utkarsh Sharma).

Gadar 2 Review
ABP Live review of the film read, "This is not just a film, it is an emotion. Whenever Sunny Deol calls Ameesha 'Madamji' you're taken 22 years back. The chemistry between Tara and Sakina is endearing. The first half also delves into Sunny's son's love story, which seems a bit stretched as Gadar is synonymous with Tara Singh and Sakina. But in the second half, when Tara goes to Pakistan and creates a storm, that's when the real fun begins."
