With the buzz around South Indian films in the last few years, Bollywood has gained powerful competition. As the new year starts, so does another opportunity for the South Indian film industry to break new records at the Box Office and capture the hearts of their audience. Here is a list of a few big South Indian movies which are supposed to release this year.
1. Ponniyin Selvan: Part II
The second part of Ponniyin Selvan, the Aishwarya Rai Bachan starrer, is set to release on 28th April this year. The historical drama is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 Tamil novel of the same name, chronicling Arulmozhivarman’s, a powerful king in the South, ruling days.
2. Salaar
With Prabhas as the lead and the director of ‘KGF: Chapter 2’, Prashanth Neel, working on a film together it is no wonder that ‘Salaar’ is one of the most awaited films this year. Due in cinemas on 28th September, the movie is a neo-noir action thriller based on the mafia.
3. Kabzaa
‘Kabzaa’ is an upcoming Kannada film which is set to release in six more Indian languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi. The action-packed thriller has Upendra in the pivotal role, with a talented cast and skilled director.
4. Hari Hara Veera Mallu
With an enormous budget of Rs. 150 crores, Pawan Kaylan’s historical drama which also features Niddhi Agerwal, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez, is slated to release in cinemas on 30 March 2023. The movie is expected to be a milestone in the star’s career especially with the huge anticipation it has already created.
5. Pushpa : The Rule
Sequel to the movie ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ is finally set to be released in July-September 2023, with actors Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles. A lot of details about the movie haven’t been shared yet, but it is expected that viewers will get a closer look into Pushpa (Allu Arjun) and Srivalli’s (Rashmika Mandanna) lives.
6. Agent
Mammootty, the beast in Malayalam cinema and Akhil Akkineni, a popular actor in the Telugu film industry, come together to create a swanky spy-thriller which is supposed to release in the summer this year, after being postponed due to the pandemic. Fans are really excited to see how the stars from different cinemas have worked together on this film.
