Filmmaker, actor Lekh Tandon passes away; Bollywood celebs mourns veteran's death!

New Delhi: Veteran filmmaker and actor Lekh Tandon, who directed iconic films like 'Amrapali', died yesterday at his residence in Mumbai. He was 88. Many B-town celebrities took to Twitter to pay tribute to the legendary filmmaker. Celebs like Shabana Azmi, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Shekhar Kapur and others paid homage to the visionary. Actor Shabana Azmi wrote, "Sad that #LekhTandon passed away but wonderful that he did so with his boots on. He was working on his latest film with a newcomers zeal. RIP" Ashutosh Goawarikar, who worked with Tandon in 'Swades', also paid tribute to the filmmaker by writing, "Very VERSATILE Director who gave several HITS! Was privileged to work with u in Swades! Will always miss ur gentleness Sir! RIP #LekhTandon." "Abhineta aur film nirdeshak Lekh Tandon ji ka aaj swargwas hua.Ye sunke mujhe bahut dukh hua.Meri unko vinamra shraddhanjali," wrote legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur wrote, "Goodbye #LekhTandon Extraordinary film maker/story teller of his times. Never ever refused an actor at his doorstep some warmth advice & tea." Born in Lahore in 1929, Tandon directed many Bollywood stars like Shammi Kapoor, Rajender Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Hema Malini, Shabana Azmi, Rekha and Rajesh Khanna. His Amrapali (1966), featuring Sunil Dutt and Vyjayanthimala, was selected as the Indian entry for the best foreign language film at the 39th Academy awards.
