'If There Will Ever Be A Sequel...': Dia Mirza Breaks Silence Over Stalking And R Madhavan’s Character In Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein

Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, Dia Mirza and R. Madhavan starrer ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein' was released in 2001.

New Delhi: Dia Mirza and R. Madhavan starrer 'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein' has earned a cult status in Hindi cinema. The romantic drama made Madhavan an overnight star. Recently, Dia Mirza talked about the debate over stalking depicted in the movie 'Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein'.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Dia said, “I was uncomfortable when Maddy’s character was stalking me. Although Reena (Dia’s character) acknowledges it, she has that moment when she tells him off. What works is that people get past the notion that it’s okay. In fact, Maddy’s character at the end has very strong values. He is respectful, he is kind, and he is well-intentioned, most importantly.”

Talking about the film story, Maddy follows Reena (played by Dia) and keeps an eye on her whereabouts. Later, he pretends to be her groom-to-be, Rajeev (Saif Ali Khan), and charms her. What’s disturbing about this scene is that, when Reena finally finds out the truth about him, Maddy tries to make a point by saying that he could have done anything to her. This scene has turned out to be more emotionally triggering for many critics.

When asked whether she thinks Reena would have been a better choice in today’s scenario, the actor said, “I don’t know what to say right now. I always thought Saif was such a great guy, so why would she just walk away from him? But that’s what we saw in the film. It’s interesting that one movie shows one way of looking at things, while another movie shows another way. If there will ever be a sequel, then it will be interesting to know where people are now.”

Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, the movie ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein' was released in 2001. The film stars Dia Mirza and R. Madhavan in the lead roles, followed by Saif Ali Khan and Anupam Khan, along with many others in major roles. On the work front, Dia Mirza, along with Ratna Pathak Shah, and Fatima Sana Shaikh, is currently seen in 'Dhak Dhak', which was released on October 13.
