Deepika Padukone's 'Chhapaak' In Legal Trouble; Writer Moves To Bombay HC Over Writing Credit
Writer Rakesh Bharti has claimed that 'Chhapaak' is his story and wants due credit as a writer of the film.
Mumbai: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone's upcoming release 'Chhapaak', co-starring Vikrant Massey, is one of the most anticipated films of 2020. Direected by Meghna Gulzar, 'Chhapaak' has managed to catch the attention of viewers with its intriguing trailer, song and posters. The film is inspired from the real life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and fans are deperately waiting for the release. However, the film has landed into legal trouble as a writer named Rakesh Bharti has moved to Bombay High Court over writing credit.

According to Bollywood Hungama, Bharti's suit claimed that he had conceived an idea/script for a movie, which he had tentatively titled as "Black Day", and got it registered with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association (IMPPA) in February 2015.
"However, the project could not commence due to unavoidable circumstances. The plaintiff had narrated them the idea, which is the production house for 'Chhapaak'," the plea said.

Bharti had even submitted a complaint to 'Chhapaak' producers after he got to know that Meghna Gulzar is directed the film based on an acid attack survivor. However, the makers didn't reacted on the same post which Bharti moved to court. In his plea, Bharti has requested a stay on 'Chhapaak' release till he gets credit as a writer.
Produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika Padukone’s KA Production, Meghna Gulzar & Govind Singh Sandhu’s Mriga Films, 'Chhapaak' is slated to release on January 10.
