Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, considered one of the most popular Hindi films of all times, has completed 26 successful years of release on Wednesday (October 20). The romantic drama, which marked the directorial debut of Aditya Chopra, is the longest-running movie in history of Indian cinema as it is still being screened at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir theatre.

What Did Kajol Post On 26 Years Of 'DDLJ'?

Kajol, who played the lead role of Simran in ‘DDLJ’, shared a sweet note on her official Instagram handle to celebrate 26 years of her blockbuster film. She expressed her gratitude towards the fans for showering the team with love.

Kajol shared the iconic train scene from ‘Dilwale Dulhania Je Jayenge’ along with the caption, "Simran caught the train 26 years back and we are still thanking everyone for all this love." Fans have flooded the comments section with their messages.

Kajol, who was always the first choice for the role of Simran, immediately gave her approval when the makers offered her the project. She won several awards for her portrayal of a girl, who dreams of meeting her ideal man.

Shah Rukh Khan Was Not The First Choice For 'DDLJ'

Aditya Chopra wanted to rope in Hollywood star Tom Cruise for his ambitious project; however, he was dissuaded by his father Yash Raj, who was not keen to have a foreign actor in 'DDLJ'. Aditya had approached Saif Ali Khan for the role of Raj when Shah Rukh Khan expressed his lack of interest in playing the character. It said that some roles are meant for certain actors. SRK ended up playing Raj, emerging as one of the most sought-after actors in Bollywood during that time.
