Pune: Bollywood actress Payal Rohatgi, who remained in headlines in 2020 for her controversial posts, has landed in legal trouble again. The cyber police in Pune have registered a case against her for allegedly sharing a ‘defamatory video on the Nehru-Gandhi family on social media, according to a report in ANI.


The cyber police registered an FIR against Payal under several sections of Indian Penal Code including 153A, 500, 505(2) and 34. A local Congress leader had filed a complaint against the former ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant for allegedly promoting enmity between groups, the report added.


In his complaint, the Congress leader accused Payal and an unidentified person of creating a defamatory video about Mahatma Gandhi, former Indian Prime Ministers- Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and other members of the Gandhi family, and circulating the same on social media platforms.



Payal was detained by the Rajasthan Police for sharing objectionable content on Nehru-Gandhi family in 2019. She was later granted bail


When Payal Rohatgi Was Arrested For Threatening Society Chairman


The Ahmedabad police had arrested the Bollywood actress for allegedly threatening and hurling abuse at the chairperson of her society on social media, according to IANS. She was later released on bail. 


The chairperson had filed a complaint against Rohatgi for allegedly using 'disparaging language' in the WhatsApp group of the society where she lives. The police officials had booked Payal under IPC Sections 294(b), 504, 506(1), 506(2), and Section 67 of the IT Act.


Payal's partner Sangram Singh, while talking to ABP News, alleged that the society was demanding Rs 5 lakh from her family as a development charge. He said that this became a major reason of dispute between the actress and the society. 


Why Twitter Suspended Payal Rohatgi's Account?


Twitter suspended Payal's account for violating the rules of the social media platform. In her Instagram post, she claimed that her Twitter account was suspended without any prior information. The 'Corporate' actress said that she didn't receive an official communication about her account's suspension on her email id.
