Sonu Sood To Contest BMC Elections 2022? Actor Reveals The Truth

Speculations were rife that the Mumbai Congress is considering Sonu Sood's name as a candidate for mayor's post in the BMC elections.

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sonu Sood trended on social media after the rumours of him contesting BMC elections 2022 surfaced on the internet. The ‘Simmba’ star, who emerged as a messiah for the migrant workers during last year’s COVID-19 lockdown, refuted the speculations about him joining politics.

Sonu, while responding to a tweet, confirmed that he is not running for Mumbai’s mayor post. He tweeted, “Not true. I am happy as a common man.”  Check out his post!

According to a report in Indian Express, the Mumbai Congress has suggested that the party should project Sonu Sood, Riteish Deshmukh and Milind Soman as candidates for mayor’s post in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022.

Mumbai Congress Secretary Ganesh Yadav has drafted the strategy document to devise a plan for the upcoming polls, the report in the daily added.

The rumours about Sonu Sood's entry in political sphere have circulated at a time when the Mumbai Police arrested Union Minister Narayan Rane for his 'slap slur' remark against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Narayan had allegedly threatened to ‘slap’ the Maha CM, creating fresh tension between the Shiv Sena and the BJP. His objectionable remarks against Thackeray set several tongues wagging.

According to a report in PTI, an FIR has been registered at Nashik’s Cyber Police Station against Rane under various sections of the IPC including 500, 505(2), 153 (B)1(C).
