Payal Rohatgi Gets Bail By Rajasthan Court Over Her Controversial Social Media Post On Nehru-Gandhi Family

Payal Rohatgi was granted bail two days after she was detained by the Rajasthan Police for her objectionable social media post on Nehru-Gandhi family.

New Delhi: Model turned Bollywood actress Payal Rohatgi, who was arrested by Bundi Police for allegedly posting objectionable video against the Nehru-Gandhi family on social media, has been granted bail by a local court on Tuesday (December 17). According to a report in ANI, the former ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant has been granted bail with two sureties of Rs 25,000 each. Payal's counselor Bhupendra Sahay Saxena moved the bail application in the court of district judge on Monday. The district judge was on leave on Tuesday so the application was moved to the court of additional district judge. "The court of additional district judge granted bail to Payal Rohatgi today on two bail bonds of Rs 25,000 each," public prosecutor Yogesh Yadav was quoted as saying by PTI. The actress mocked the Nehru-Gandhi family in one of her videos on Facebook. Following this, State Youth Congress general secretary Charmesh Sharma had submitted a complaint against her along with copies of the offensive content after which the case was registered against Payal. He alleged that Payal posted objectionable content that tarnished the image of the country and spread vulgarity, religious hatred besides disgracing a woman's character. Payal was detained by Bundi police from Ahmedabad on Sunday (December 15) and was placed under arrest on Monday. She was sent to judicial custody by  Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court on Monday. The actress had posted a tweet which read, "I am arrested by @PoliceRajasthan for making a video on #MotilalNehru which I made from taking information from @google Freedom of Speech is a joke @PMOIndia @HMOIndia." Payal Rohatgi, who has worked in films like 'Corporate' and '36 China Town', was booked under the IT Act on October 10 for allegedly posting objectionable content against Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru and other members of the family. Payal's fiance Sangram Singh, while talking to an entertainment portal, had earlier said that she was arrested for speaking her mind. "My partner was detained in Ahmedabad for a video she posted earlier this month. She was formerly arrested and brought to the Bundi court. I’ve been in the court for the whole morning where our lawyer was speaking in my wife’s defence. The court has rejected her bail application and she is now in custody until December 24,” the wrestler told IWMBuzz.

“I can’t imagine how Payal will spend time inside jail. I don’t know how I can get her out. My lawyer says we’ve to go to a higher court. How long would that take? When can I have my wife back? I’ve no answers. I feel helpless just thinking about her in a dingy prison cell,” he further told the portal. Watch this space for more updates! (With PTI inputs)
