‘Paatal Lok’ Actor Asif Basra Found Hanging In Dharamshala, Suicide Suspected

The actor was allegedly suffering from depression. Read on.

New Delhi: Actor Asif Basra who is best known for his role in the American comedy film ‘Outsourced’ has allegedly committed suicide at Dharamshala on November 12, 2020. He was supposedly suffering from depression. As per reports, the 52-year-old actor was reportedly found hanging at his rented complex in Himachal Pradesh. While the reason of death is not known yet, it is being expected to be a case of suicide as the actor was reportedly suffering from depression. SSP Kangra Vimukt Ranjan, Himachal Pradesh told ANI, “Film actor Asif Basra was found hanging in a private complex in Dharamshala. Forensic team is at the spot and police is investigating the matter” ‘The Tashkent Files’ actor was born on July 27, 1967 in Amravati, Maharashtra. He then moved to Mumbai in 1989 to pursue his career in acting. Asif is popularly known for his work in Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Black Friday’, ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Kai Po Che!’, ‘Parzania’. Reacting to the news, filmmaker Hansal Mehta tweeted: "Can't be true... This is just very, very sad."

Other than Indian films, Basra also appeared in a number of international English-language films including the 2006 movie ‘Outsourced’, ‘Tandoori Love’ and ‘One Night With The King’. Asif Basra was a theatre artist and have starred in many plays in India and abroad where he performed in English, Hindi and Urdu. The ‘Hichki’ actor is also known for playing five characters in Feroz Abbas Khan’s production of ‘Mahatma v/s Gandhi’. This play is considered as one of the most successful theatre works in India. Asif also illustrated the character of a 12-year old child with ‘spina bifida’ in ‘Main Bhi Superman’. ‘Spina bifida’ is a birth defect that occurs when the spinal cord do not form properly. Other than these, he also portrayed the title role in Manav Kaul’s acclaimed play ‘Mamtaz Bhai Patang Waale’.
