Kangana Ranaut Supports Suspended BJP Spokesperson Nupur Sharma Over Her Remark On Prophet Mohammed

Kangana took to her Instagram story and backed the BJP spokesperson by saying that "Nupur is entitled to her own opinions".

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut is known for vehemently voicing her opinion in all matters, including political ones. Recently, the 'Dhaakad' actress lent her support to former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who was suspended from the party's primary membersip over her remark on Prophet Mohammad during an television debate. Nupur's suspension came as her remarks resulted in a furore as the followers of Islam claimed she hurt their religious sentiments. Several Muslim nations since condemned the comments she made on live TV.

Kangana took to her Instagram story and said the former BJP spokesperson was "entitled to her own opinions". She shared a long note which read: "Nupur is entitled to her opinions, I see all kinds of threats targeted at her, when Hindu Gods are insulted which they are almost every day we go to court, pls do that no need to play dons yourself..this is not Afghanistan, we have a proper functioning government which is chosen with a process called democracy... just a reminder for those who keep forgetting."

Earlier, actress Swara Bhasker took to Twitter to condemn Nupur Sharma's remarks on the Prophet. "Oh hey @NupurSharmaBJP @navikakumar @TimesNow! Hope you are celebrating the international shame your hate filled rabble rousing has brought India!" Swara wrote.

'Badhai Do' actor Gulshan Deviah also showed criticised the Nupur Sharma's comment. He tweeted: "Freedom of speech can’t be absolute. It must bear the burden of social responsibility, but that’s different from society to society. Telling someone not to be hurt after hurting them is the arsehole thing to do & in politics such opportunities will be properly exploited."

 

In the wake of the controversy, party general secretary Arun Singh said in a statement that the party is vehemently opposed to any philosophy that degrades or demeans any sect or faith.

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut's film 'Dhaakad' turned out to be a huge flop, with the film being able to sell only 20 tickets across the country on the 8th day of its release.
