Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic presented Johnny Depp with a Gold Medal of Merit on Tuesday during a ceremony commemorating Serbian Statehood Day in Belgrade, Serbia.
New Delhi: The 58-year-old actor, Johnny Depp was honoured for his "outstanding merits in public and cultural activities, particularly in the sphere of cinema art and the promotion of the Republic of Serbia in the globe."

Talking about the Serbian President, he is known for his controversies. President Aleksandar Vucic was elected in 2017. He has sparked many rumours, provoked a wave of protests, with detractors accusing him of autocratic leadership and corruption, as well as stifling press freedom.
After accepting the medal, Depp shared a wholesome speech, "I truly, sincerely thank you, President Vučić, and this medal of merit, if I am given the honour to walk away with this, I thank you for being kind enough to bestow it upon me." He then continued to add, "I’m right now on the verge of a new life and I like it, I like a re-beginning. And I would love for that beginning to start here."
Johnny has worked on various Serbia-related projects, including filming Minamata in Belgrade and he will also voice a part in Puffins, a Serbian-produced animated series.
