The Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy: A Challenging Backdrop

The buzz surrounding Diljit comes amid a difficult phase linked to his previous film 'Sardaar Ji 3'. The film faced significant backlash earlier this year when it was revealed that Pakistani actress Hania Aamir had been cast opposite Diljit.

The timing of this casting coincided with the Pahalgam terror attack in April, which heightened tensions and led the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) to urge the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to withhold the film’s release certificate in India.

In response to the mounting pressure, the producers decided to forgo an Indian theatrical release and instead opted for an overseas rollout.

Diljit addressed the issue during an interview with BBC Asian Network, saying, “When this film was made, everything was fine. We shot it in February and things were okay back then. After that, a lot of big things happened that were beyond our control. So the producers decided that the film obviously won't be released in India now, so they'll release it overseas. The producers have invested a lot of money, and when the film was being made, nothing like this was happening.”

Continued Backlash in the Industry

The controversy surrounding 'Sardaar Ji 3' hasn’t ended with just the film’s release challenges. Various influential film bodies have reportedly called on the makers of 'Border 2' to remove Diljit Dosanjh from the cast. Similar sentiments have been expressed about his collaboration with director Imtiaz Ali on an upcoming project, intensifying pressure on the actor from parts of the Indian film fraternity.

Despite these tensions, Diljit’s recent video has made it clear that he remains an active part of 'Border 2', signaling his determination to move forward amid controversies.
