'It is Rocky's Ignorance That Is Highlighed...': Churni Ganguly On Tagore Controversy In 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'

In a chat with ABP Live, Churni Ganguly discussed the Tagore controversy saying that we probably took it the wrong way.

New Delhi: 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' is indeed taking the theatres by storrm. This Karan Johar directorial is not just an entertainer but also aims to shatter baseless norms of the society and send a number of messages across, including the ability to accept cultural diferences between communities and welcome them with open arms. The film also faced a little controversy prior to it release regarding the scene where Rocky mistakingly refers to Tagore as "Dadaji"

In a chat with ABP Live, Churni Ganguly who played Rani's mother in the film discussed the Tagore controversy saying that we probably took it the wrong way.

Talking about the controversy related to Tagore, she said, "We respect the censor boards decisions. If they want things a certain way which does not harm the film in any way, I think it's always okay to incorporate it. And, we are glad we did that in the film. As far as Rabindranath Thakur and the controversy regarding that is concerned, I think it's alright if a person who is not a Bengali doesn't realise the old man in the picture. And, here actually it is Rocky's (not Ranveer's) ignorance that is highlighed. People don't want to insult Bengalis in any way."

"So, I think we took it the wrong way. It's Rocky's ignorance of not knowing the person, and it goes with the kind of boy Rocky is. One who says that West Bengal is in the West of the country can easily not know about Tagore. So, that way I think it's alright. I stand by it. It wasn't meant to insult Bengalis," she further added.

Churni also shared that she loved the cultural exchange that happened in the film.

"You have these two people with different backgrounds, who come together out of love, they have their own ideocentrosies, they judge each other and they also meet half way, somewhere in the middle. So, I think that was a very big takeaway from the script and the film. Besides being judgemental and critical of each other, we need to understand that the journey of each person is different. We are very quick to come to a conclusion and make statements about people. I think that's where the film wins."

"People went in for an entertainment, for a love story and they come back with much more. And, the same goes for me as a viewer. Beause, when I view my films, honestly, I am not able to process very many things, because I am so taken in by my own little things here and there and whether I've done my bit well or not. So, what I took away from the film were the little moments that people shared," she further went on to say.

The film hit the theatres on July 28 and became a Box Office success.
