When Govinda's Wife Sunita Wanted To Meet Him Because He Hit Two Girls In College: 'He Threw Hot Milk...'
Sunita shared that when she first heard about Govinda from her brother-in-law, who was related to him, she was told that he didn’t interact with women.
Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, have been married since 1987. The couple's journey began when they were introduced by family members shortly after Govinda graduated and was still making his way in the film industry.
In a previous interview, Sunita shared that when she first heard about Govinda from her brother-in-law, who was related to him, she was told that he didn’t interact with women. She was also informed that he had been violent with two women, which surprisingly sparked Sunita’s curiosity, leading her to want to meet him.
When Sunita came to know Govinda had hit girls
During an appearance on Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai in the early 2000s, Sunita recalled how she first learned about Govinda through her brother-in-law, who often praised his handsome nephew. When she inquired more about him, she was told that he didn’t talk to women.
“My brother-in-law said that he hits girls. He said you don’t talk to him. He said Govinda had actually hit two girls in his college. One of them, he hit with an umbrella. And the other girl, he threw hot milk on her face. So he doesn’t talk to girls at all,” she remembered, as the couple laughed at the story.
Sunita went on, “So I was wondering who is this boy who doesn’t talk to girls. I told my Jeejaji you call him, I will talk to him. That’s when I met him.” The two married soon after, with Sunita being just 18 at the time.
In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, she revealed that her father didn’t attend their wedding because he disapproved of their union.
When Govinda wanted to end things with Sunita
In a 1990 interview with Stardust, Govinda admitted that he had once considered ending his relationship with Sunita after developing feelings for actress Neelam Kothari. “I couldn’t stop praising her (Neelam). To my friends, to my family. Even to Sunita, to whom I was committed. I would tell Sunita to change herself and become like Neelam. I would tell her to learn from her. I was merciless. Sunita would get irritated. She would tell me, ‘You fell in love with me because of what I am, don’t ever try to change me.’ But I was so confused. I didn’t know what to own.”
In the same interview, Govinda confessed, “I never meant to get so seriously involved with Sunita. I was looking for a girl to go around with.” He further explained that he had to perform a romantic scene on-screen but was uncomfortable with the idea, prompting his brother to suggest that he go out with someone to “get some experience of romance.”
